Michael is the inaugural Payson J. Treat Distinguished Research Fellow in Contemporary Asia at Stanford’s Hoover Institution, a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, a senior fellow at Policy Exchange (London) and the Foreign Policy Research Institute (Philadelphia), the senior advisor for Asia at the Halifax International Security Forum, and the vice chairman of the Wilton Park USA Foundation. He previously was an associate professor of history at Yale.

A historian by training, Michael is the author of Asia’s New Geopolitics and the best-selling The End of the Asian Century. He is a long-time contributor to the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Foreign Policy and The Spectator amongst other publications.
