Matt Turpin is a senior advisor to the CEO of Palantir Technologies. His primary responsibility is to help the company perceive and adapt to shifting geopolitical trends in North America, Europe and Asia. He is also a Hoover Institution Visiting Fellow at Stanford University.

Until August 2019, Mr. Turpin was a Commerce Department official serving as the Director for China at the U.S. National Security Council in the White House. He was responsible for managing interagency efforts to develop and implement U.S. Government policies on the People’s Republic of China and led multiple bilateral and multilateral negotiations for the United States. 

Mr. Turpin is a retired U.S. Army officer, serving for over 22 years in uniform. He served for three years as the Chief of Crisis Planning at the U.S. Pacific Command and in 2013, he became an advisor on China to the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. From 2014 to 2016, he was assigned to assist the Deputy Secretary of Defence with understanding the implications of great power competition on the Department of Defence and the role of innovation in U.S. defence policy.
